Momentarily Cherished.

I’ve become a mirage,
A mirage no one is chasing.
Distant, unclear, too far gone,
Even for my own good.
Instinctively slinking away
From anyone getting too close.

But at what cost?
To just be unattainable,
To just be free,
Free from what? you may ask.

The disappointments, I say.
For once you become the oasis,
Hard to get but reachable,
You’re just left being a giver,
Praised and cherished; momentarily,
Then forgotten by the travelers.
